Farmer Drones: Yay or Nay

The article “Farmer Drones” explains the pros and cons of using drones to help out on the farm. Drones are UAVs (Unmanned Ariel Vehicle) that are beginning to be used on farms. They do things such as water plants, spray pesticides, and herd animals. The current law allows drones but there are many restrictions regarding the use of them. The reason being, there have been plane and helicopter issues because of the recreational use of drones.

I believe that some of the restrictions on the use of drones should be lifted. Based off of the article I read, I believe the advantages of the drones role on farms far outweigh the disadvantages.

The Reformation

The age of Absolutism was a time in the 17th and 18th centuries where Europe was ruled by very powerful monarchs. Monarchs are rulers who have power of everyone and everything in their country. Absolutism is the ruling by monarchs vs constitutionalism is elected leaders by voting and there are more restrictions on a leaders power.

An example of an absolute ruler would be King Louis XIV.

Louis XIV was an absolute monarch who led France.

He was known for ruling harshly but well. He controlled everything he could. He expanded Frances border when he became king. Louis’ great rule was a result of his extraordinary subjects. He knew where to put each man because he knew their strengths and weaknesses.

An example of constitutionalism would be Parliament. They came up with the Petition of Rights so the king or queen would not have absolute power. The petition of rights was made up of 4 key ideas; o taxation without the consent of Parliament, no imprisonment without cause, no quartering of soldiers on subjects, and no martial law in peacetime.

Some people, like Martin Luther, could see that the church also abused its power. Besides indulgences, why did Martin Luther consider the Church corrupt? He believed that the church was abusing its power and they were straying away from the Bible’s teachings. What is the key difference in practice between Martin Luther’s Protestant religion and the religion of the Catholic Church? The Protestant church teaches that salvation can be granted through Christ only.

“It was a depressed German cleric, Martin Luther, who lit the fuse for the first, European, Reformation. Provided no comfort by Catholic ritual and horrified by abuses in Italy, he concluded that salvation was a personal matter between God and man: traditional church ceremonial was irrelevant at best and at its worst – the sale of indulgences, for example – fraudulent. Nailing his 95 Theses to a church door in Wittenberg, Germany, he prompted massive theological debate and was condemned as a heretic and an outlaw.”  The church also used their power to teach things that strayed away from the Bible. “But the Reformation was far from over. The Protestant Anne Boleyn had the motivation, the power and the intelligence to push reform as far as it would go.” These quotes explain how the reformation got its start and how it caused an uprising.

The social caste system that had been based on clergy and nobility for hundreds of years began to crumble. Mary I took the religious views of her mother, Catherine the Great, and spent her reign trying to turn England back to Catholicism, restoring control to the papacy and removing the title of Supreme Head of the Church as well as bringing back Roman Catholic Bishops. With the religion constantly switching back and forth, the people of England were left to accept whatever religion was being backed at the particular time or face death. However if they became to adamant about the cause, they too risked execution if the tides turned as Thomas More and Thomas Cromwell both experienced. Along with these two men, hundreds of others were executed for their religious beliefs, Catholics, Puritans, and Lutherans alike. The printing press helped spread news of the information of the reformation across Europe.

This is a map from the time of the Reformation.

Trump vs Biden 2020 Presidential Election

This year Donald Trump is representing the Republican party and Joe Biden the Democrat party. I believe that Donald Trump will win the election this year. The leftists arguments stand no chance to conservatives arguments. They talk about LGBTQ rights when Donald Trump was the one who legalized gay marriage. In the past, Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and Hilary Clinton have spoke out publicly against gay marriage.

Donald Trump has helped the economy tremendously. “The average worker’s pay finally grew more than 3 percent a year under Trump, and there was a drop in the number of Americans on food stamps. Consumer and business confidence also jumped after Trump’s election and remained high after the GOP tax cuts took effect in 2018. As recently as February, many Americans rated this as the best economy since the late 1990s.” The pandemic, Covid-19, ruined the economy though. “The pandemic recession triggered more than 22 million job losses, modern-day bread lines and millions of pay cuts.” Lots of democrats claim Trump is a white supremacist, but he has done so much for African Americans. “A key part of Trump’s argument is the Black unemployment rate, which hit the lowest level ever recorded — 5.4 percent — in August 2019.”

Joe Biden is planning on raising taxes for people who make more money and giving the money to people who didn’t earn it. He also plans to take away guns which would go against the 2nd amendment. I think if people vote, they probably will have done research. I think Trump will win, but I think it will be close. I hope Trump wins because I plan on getting a job and buying things without having to pay 60% tax.

Most Dangerous Game… Murder or Sport?

The short story, Most Dangerous Game, is about a man who is stranded on an island with a man who hunts men for sport. The General had hunted just about every animal before, but he found it too easy. He put sharp rocks around his island to wreck ships who ran into them. He would take them prisoner and hunt them because they had the ability to reason. I think that he is smart for coming up with this solution, but it is still very inhumane. These articles can help your understanding of reason https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2016/07/is-reason-losing-out-to-instinct-and-emotion/489854/ and hunting https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/earth-talks-hunting/. In my opinion, you should only hunt for food or some other motive that gives you a good reason to get rid of a particular animal. For example, if chipmunks are eating up all of your plants, you may want to kill them. In this story, he hunts them because he is bored, which is murder in my opinion.

Scarlet Ibis

The Scarlet Ibis, by James Hurst, is a story about a child and his disabled brother. They work together to teach him to walk, run and swim. They get caught in a storm and Doodle, the disabled brother, dies because his brother’s pride gets in the way of saving him. I think the theme is, “Striving for improvement is good as long as one does not push too far, because it can result in dangerous consequences. “Here, Doodle says, “Brother, Brother, don’t leave me! Don’t leave me! “The knowledge that Doodle’s and my plans had come to naught was bitter, and that streak of cruelty within me awakened. I ran as fast as I could, leaving him far behind with a wall of rain dividing us.” Doodle’s brother left him behind because he wanted Doodle to run on his own. Regardless of how much one wants a loved one to excel, safety takes priority over independence. In a literal life or death situation, risking it is never the right choice.
